Giving Back in Halton This Holiday Season

The holiday season is all about coming together, spreading joy, and making a difference—and Halton is bursting with opportunities to give back! This month, the community is alive with initiatives that embody the spirit of generosity. From supporting families with warm clothing through the Community Closet to wrapping gifts for a cause at Milton Mall, there’s something meaningful for everyone to take part in. You can contribute to the Georgetown Bread Basket’s 30 Days of Giving Challenge, , support the Toy Mountain Campaign to bring smiles to children’s faces, or help Halton Women’s Place provide essentials for women and families. Whether it’s through donating items, lending your time, or simply spreading the word, your support can create ripples of positivity this season.

Donate to the Community Closet - Southside Community Church Milton

The Community Closet at Southside Milton is an amazing initiative that offers free clothing and shoes to families in need right here in Milton. Open on Saturdays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at 200 Main Street East, it’s such a welcoming space where everyone can find something they need. Additionally, shoppers can volunteer their time at the store, picking up new skills, gaining work experience, and enjoying priority shopping opportunities. This incredible program thrives because of the generous support from the community, with donations of clean, gently used clothing and shoes for all ages—plus gift cards for essentials. It’s a real team effort that’s been going strong for over 11 years!

Charity Gift Wrapping Event - Milton Mall

Get into the holiday spirit and give back at Milton Mall’s Holiday Charity Gift Wrapping station, hosted by the Hospital Auxiliary! From December 13th to 24th, you can have your gifts beautifully wrapped while supporting a meaningful cause. Every package wrapped brings a little extra joy—not just to someone’s holiday, but to our entire community. It’s a cheerful, festive way to make a difference this season!

Toy Mountain Campaign - Halton Region

The CTV Toy Mountain campaign is celebrating its 29th year in 2024, continuing its incredible partnership with The Salvation Army to collect toys for families in need across the community. With financial challenges on the rise, donations matter now more than ever to bring smiles to children this holiday season. While all toy contributions are appreciated, there's often a shortage for tweens, teens, and babies, so consider adding items like gift cards, books, or sporting goods for older kids, or essentials for little ones. You can donate online and receive a tax receipt or drop off a new, unwrapped toy at participating locations like malls, IKEA, or Best Buy, Burlington Mall and Oakville Place.

Halton Women's Place

Donating to Halton Women’s Place is a meaningful way to support women and families in our community. While the shelters are well-stocked with toys, clothing, and toiletries at the moment, they’re still in need of new nut-free snacks, canned goods, hygiene items, and baby essentials like strollers and formula. Small appliances like blenders and microwaves, as well as gift cards to places like grocery stores or Walmart, are also super helpful.

All donations must be new, but they’ve made it easy to shop with their Amazon Wish List! If you’ve got gently used clothing or linens to share, you can drop them in the designated green bins around Halton. Every little bit helps, and your contribution goes a long way in helping women create a fresh start.

If you’d like to donate physical items, please check the current list of accepted donations. Drop-offs can be made on weekdays at the Burlington location from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or at the Milton location from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., during staffed hours. For more details or any questions, feel free to email donations@haltonwomensplace.com.

Every Gesture Counts

Every gesture of kindness, no matter how small, has the power to brighten someone’s day and bring hope to families experiencing hardship. During the holiday season, even a simple act, like donating a toy, sharing a meal, or giving your time, can create ripples of positivity that touch countless lives. By participating in community initiatives, you’re not just offering support—you're actively helping to create festive moments and lasting memories for those in need.
